Kicking Off 2013 with a New Seminar from Media 4 Women
Today on our radio program (www.TheWay4Today.com), Tonilee and I interviewed the CEO of oDesk.com, the world’s largest online employer. It was a very cool and amazing opportunity to speak with Gary Swart and hear his story. www.oDesk.com currently has over 1.2 million contractors across the world. Basically, there is nothing you cannot do in business today. The resources are astounding, from your own call center to a personal assistant to an app developer…all handled online.
2013 should be your break out year for success and prosperity. I know it’s time to see goals achieved and dreams realized. Are you ready? Media 4 Women is ready and making big plans. But, as we plan our goals for the new year, we also continue our mission to help others as entrepreneurs. Teaching, training and providing tools and resources to help those who want to be their own boss and control their own financial destiny are the motivations behind our services. From websites to social media to online marketing, the Internet is the future of most every type of business. Love it or hate it…we cannot escape it.
I’m kicking off the new year with a new seminar on Saturday, January 26th. The details are at www.Media4Women.com/seminars. The most important thing I have learned in working online is to not quit, keep at it and the rewards will come.
Here are my top 5 tips for online and social media success:
- Think about and plan what you want to communicate; what you do; your mission; your services; etc
- Engage and communicate authentically. Be real. Be honest. Be genuine.
- Select your social media sites and use them consistently. Build relationships and develop trust with your audience by staying in touch with quality information on the same sites.
- Promote others’ businesses, organizations, events, etc. Be selfless and willing to network without being competitive. The returns in the long run are greater.
- Use the Internet and social media for good. Be positive in your communication and establish a solid quality reputation. Negativity and criticism should be avoided in online and social media postings. Choose your words wisely.

Time Management
I liked this article on Plaxo about Time Management. I tend to pray, “Multiple my time” however, it is also good to assess how time flies by in our day. If we wrote down how we spend our time throughout the day as some of us have written down how many calories we have eaten, we probably would be shocked how much wasted time we spend. Here are some great applications to help us all:
There never seems to be enough time. Sound familiar? With today’s hectic work and personal schedules, time is the one thing we can’t grasp. We have it, and just like that it’s gone. And, with it goes our “things I wanted to do today but didn’t get around to” list that can tend to keep us up at night.
Well, being the new year and all, I say we make a resolution to get a better grip on time. Take control of it as a way to better manage our lives and keep us sane. Because, isn’t a stress-free you a more productive you?
Make a Schedule and Stick To It
For those who consider themselves schedule-intolerant, understood, and more power to you. For the rest of us who feel like we’re being pulled in every opposite direction known, there’s hope. Now, I know saying to make a schedule can be considered a “duh” statement. But, you’d be surprised by how many of us make a schedule only to completely ignore it. Your schedule is important. It confirms just how precious your time is and what you should do with it.
Prioritize, Prioritize, Prioritize
There are a dozen and one goals to be met, so priority is key when managing your time. Start out the day by prioritizing everything that needs to be done that day. You might even try scheduling each ‘to do’ into actual half-hour time slots for that given day. The more concrete you can be (with how and when you are going to meet your daily goals), the better. Recognize high priority, show stoppers first, of course. Keep in mind that what could be of the utmost importance to you at one point during the day may not be so important as the day moves on. Priorities change but it’s best to always having a starting point.
Organize Your Space
Chances are if your space/work area is disorganized, so are you. If your files, contact information, paperwork, and the like, have taken root on your desk, you’re going to spend more time looking for them. And, if you spend most of your little time looking for things, like paperwork and phone numbers, then you’ll have no time to actually accomplish anything. Maintain your space and utilize tools, such as Plaxo, to keep you better organized.
Get Help
Sometimes, there are so many things going on, we just need a little help to meet our goals. Don’t shy away from hiring an assistant or intern, especially if you’re the disorganized type as mentioned above. A little help can go a long way when it comes to keeping on track. Plus, delegating work frees you up physically, mentally and sometimes emotionally.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Really Worth Your Time?
Forget the endless speculation about whether or not social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn can make money. Considering they are free advertising online sites, the key question needs to be how much money are they making your company? One in three business owners say that social media helps them not only get the word out but also bring in new clients. It’s not just a buzz. The more time you use it and the more experienced you become, the better the results. “We don’t have a choice on whether we do Social Media, the question is how well we DO IT” says Erik Qualman.
